Hasn't it been a miserable couple of weeks weather-wise! I was really hoping for some sunshine this weekend so we could put up the Cath Kidston play-tent in the garden! It certainly doesn't sound like we will be able to. I don't know about everyone else, but this recent bad weather has left me feeling very lethargic and at a bit of a loss for blog inspiration. We were, at least, treated to a little sunshine at the start of this week, and we made the most of it while it lasted;
Tea in the garden with some Cornish icecream for pudding;
It was nice to sit outside and have a browse through some of my old books from when I was a child, i'm so pleased now that I kept them and can enjoy the familiar tales with Mia and Baby Boy;
I still collect Usborne books, especially vintage copies, these have given me so many lovely ideas for things to do with the children;
Lots of lovely old nature stories, perfect for a (rare!) sunny summer's evening;
I'm dreaming now of nature walks in the woods, camping in the garden and fishing for minnows in the river (and putting them back afterwards, of course!) - I think these things are so important for children to experience, sadly I think many of them don't these days.
Just a reminder that tomorrow evening, 6pm, my Pretty Nostalgic magazine giveaway will end and Mia will be picking the winner from the hat - good luck everyone and there's still time to enter to be in with a chance of winning the lovely magazine and box of "mystery" goodies! Click on the picture below; (if this doesn't work you will find the link to my Giveaway post on my sidebar)

Hi Marina: I feel the same way when the weather is drab and dreary. My energy comes with the sun! How lucky you kept your little books. I bet the kids love hearing you read to them. I have always thought that was very important..Happy Thursday..Judy
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny, I have literally just wrote on Twitter that hardly anyone seems motivated to blog lately! I certainly don't, I have nothing to say which is new, it's normally hard to shut me up. Definitely something to do with this weather! It's not been so bad at mine today (near Liverpool), just really dark outside and the sky was so grey, but no rain. And it has literally just this minute started pouring down. (Absolutely huge sigh). This is how boring I am lately, writing a paragraph on the weather. Where is the sun?:(
ReplyDeleteGlad you got a bit of it though! (Feel like I haven't seen it for weeks) The ice creams look so yummy, I remember my Gran always treating me to that ice cream squirty stuff when I was a kid!
The books look lovely!
Hope the weather cheers up at yours soon xxx
Lets hope it cheers up soon, I love your childhood books, its lovely to look back at them, somehow the sun always shone when we were little!

Surely we've got to have our Summer soon!
ReplyDeleteI love those Usborne books,they have such good illustrations don't they? It must be lovely for you to see your children get enjoyment from the books you loved as a child.
Hope you all have a very happy weekend. ;0)
Such lovely books. I kept lots of my old Enid Blytons which my Little Miss reads now. I agree about the weather. I'm so fed up being fed up with the weather! This country is the worst for it.
ReplyDeleteBtw, thank you so much for your thoughtful reply to my question. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with me. I have lots of food for thought!

Your vintage children's books are just gorgeous Marina! What a sweet, simple way to enjoy an afternoon with the little ones. Our summer in NZ was rather grey, gloomy and overcast, so here's wishing you loads more sunshine for yours hon! Becks xxx
ReplyDeleteI subscribed to that magazine after seeing the offer and my first copy arrived a week or so ago. I have been slowly making my way through it and savouring each page. I didn't get a copy of the book though. Will see if it come through in the next week, then will email them.
ReplyDeleteDo you get the emails from Nature Detectives? They are full of nature ideas to do with the children.
Hope you have a good weekend, whatever the weather.

I agree..I am hoping that there will be more sunny days in the forecast soon.
ReplyDeleteThe ice cream looks very yummy!
What cute books.it is nice that you kept them so your children can enjoy them as well. I think my Mother may bring some of my old childhood books, so I can do the same when the little one arrives.
Have a good weekend...x
